Softball Recap: Deer Lakes Lancers vs. Charleroi Cougars

It's playoff time, and Deer Lakes had no trouble coming through when it counted. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Charleroi Cougars a 7-0 shutout on Thursday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Lancers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Not much got past Laney Dineff, who gave up just nine hits to keep Charleroi off the board. Dineff has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sophia Laurenza and Siena Plummer did most of the damage at the plate: Laurenza went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBI, while Plummer went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most stolen bases Laurenza has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Riley Jones, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Deer Lakes' win bumped their record up to 10-13. As for Charleroi, they now have a losing record of 8-9.

As of now, neither Deer Lakes nor the Cougars have any future games scheduled.
