Basketball Recap: Southwestern Gets the Win

Southwestern won against Brown County last Friday with 67 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Saturday. The Southwestern Spartans walked away with a 67-56 victory over the South Decatur Cougars. For the Spartans, this counts as revenge for the 55-43 win the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lucas Ballard, who went 6 for 12 en route to 17 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Karson Templeton, who posted 13 points and five rebounds.

Southwestern's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 4-7. As for South Decatur, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-9.

Southwestern has already played their next contest (against Edinburgh), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. South Decatur will head out to square off against Christian Academy of Madison at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Decatur is facing Christian Academy of Madison at the right time seeing as Christian Academy of Madison is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
