Basketball Recap: Falkner Comes Up Short

Falkner was the 63-59 winner over Ashland when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Falkner Eagles were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 53-52 to the Ashland Blue Devils. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Blue Devils 13-6 in the first quarter.

Despite the loss, Falkner still got an impressive performance from Elijah Mauney, who posted 22 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. That's the most steals Mauney has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Nunley, who put up 17 points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Falkner smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

It was another big night for Nicholas Jones, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds for Ashland. Modarius Yancey was another key player, putting up six points.

Falkner's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Ashland, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-8.

Falkner will host Wheeler at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Wheeler's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight matches. As for Ashland, they will venture away from home to take on Baldwyn at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Ashland has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
