Softball Game Preview: Lafayette Commodores vs. Pontotoc Warriors

For the second straight game, Lafayette will face off against Pontotoc. The Commodores will take on the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lafayette's pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so Pontotoc's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Lafayette is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Mississippi's top teams: Pontotoc, who was ranked 21st at the time (Lafayette was ranked 16th). The Commodores sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Warriors on Tuesday. The win was nothing new for the Commodores as they're now sitting on three straight.

For Pontotoc's part, Erynn Boddie was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That home run marked the first that Boddie launched this season.

Lafayette's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Pontotoc, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-5.

Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lafayette hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .405.
