Softball Game Preview: Midway Vikings vs. Archie Whirlwinds

The Midway Vikings will head out to take on the Archie Whirlwinds at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Midway has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Midway is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Crest Ridge just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They came up short against the Cougars, falling 25-10.

Kendall Goddard made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Keelyn McCuiston also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Archie made sure to put some runs up on the board against Lakeland on Tuesday. The Whirlwinds blew past the Vikings 22-7. The Whirlwinds' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Archie got a massive performance out of Shelby Newport, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI. With that strong performance, Newport is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game. Another player making a difference was Madison Wilson, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Archie always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .824. The last time their OBP was this high was since the start of last season.

Midway's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Archie, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Midway suffered a grim 17-2 defeat to Archie in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
