Basketball Recap: New Smyrna Beach Comes Up Short

New Smyrna Beach has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 56-50 heartbreaker at the hands of the Jensen Beach Falcons. The match marked the Barracudas' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the defeat, New Smyrna Beach saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jd Fieser posted 13 points and five rebounds. Mikey Steward was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Jensen Beach to victory, but perhaps none more so than Vari Newson, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 14 points in addition to five boards and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Cordell Wilkins, who scored 15 points and six rebounds.

New Smyrna Beach's loss dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Jensen Beach, the win got them back to even at 6-6.

New Smyrna Beach didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-53 defeat against Flagler Palm Coast on the 7th. Jensen Beach has also already played their next match, a 52-38 victory against Morningside Academy on the 7th.
