Baseball Recap: Memphis Central Takes a Loss

After flying high against Middle College last Tuesday, Memphis Central came back down to earth. The Memphis Central Warriors fell 9-6 to the St. Benedict at Auburndale Eagles on Wednesday.

Joshua Thurmon put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Thurmon was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Memphis Central is 4-1 when Thurmon posts two or more runs, but 1-2 otherwise.

In other batting news, Orlando Jones was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Memphis Central's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for St. Benedict at Auburndale, the win snapped their losing streak at four games dating back to last season and leaves them with a 1-3 record.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Memphis Central will welcome Germantown at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Germantown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season. As for St. Benedict at Auburndale, they will take on Memphis East at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
