Softball Recap: Port of Los Angeles Now 7-1 over Last Eight Games

Port of Los Angeles proved they can win big on Monday (they won by ten) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past the Garfield Bulldogs 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Polar Bears have posted since April 15, 2024.

Port of Los Angeles' victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Alyssa Setka, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that Setka has hit this season.

Setka wasn't the only one making solid contact: Port of Los Angeles kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive matches.

Port of Los Angeles is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Garfield, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season.

Port of Los Angeles and Garfield should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Polar Bears (ranked 317th) will meet Fremont (ranked 693rd) at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Garfield will face off against Bell at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank advantage (457 vs. 930).
