Softball Recap: Pine Tree Pirates vs. Spring Hill Panthers

Pine Tree blew Spring Hill out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Spring Hill got their revenge. Pine Tree fell just short of Spring Hill by a score of 13-11. The Pirates' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Jasmine Byrd was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zamoria Smith, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Even though they lost, Pine Tree hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spring Hill struck out ten times.

Pine Tree's loss dropped their record down to 7-14-1. As for Spring Hill, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-9-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Pine Tree is set to square off against their familiar foe Chapel Hill at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Spring Hill will face off against rival Gilmer at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Spring Hill: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Gilmer has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
