Softball Recap: Sahuarita Makes It 14 in a Row at Home

Sahuarita's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Salpointe Catholic on Thursday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over the Walden Grove Red Wolves. Considering the Mustangs have won 18 matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Jayd Villa made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Villa was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Eliana Romero was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Brenna Figueroa, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Sahuarita always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Walden Grove only posted an OBP of .211.

Sahuarita pushed their record up to 20-4 with the win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.9 runs over those games. As for Walden Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-8.

Looking ahead, Sahuarita will venture away from home to take on Amphitheater at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.33 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Walden Grove, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Eastmark at 11:00 a.m. The Firebirds will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Red Wolves surely won't give up without a fight.
