Softball Recap: Friday's Victory Is Churchill County's Ninth in Last Ten Outings

Churchill County extended their postseason success on Friday against Fernley. They came out on top against the Vaqueros by a score of 6-2. That's the sixth time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 4-3 win last Saturday.

Janessa Bettencourt made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Maddison Keller was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Churchill County is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a massive bump to their 23-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Fernley, their defeat dropped their record down to 29-11.

Fernley didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 15-3 win against Boulder City on the 16th. Hopefully Churchill County paid attention to the Vaqueros' contest: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Vaqueros at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
