The Nyack Red Hawks will face off against the North Rockland Raiders at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Nyack has given up an average of 10.4 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Nyack came up short against Clarkstown North on Monday, falling 15-5. The Red Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Nyack saw nine different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brandon Salemo, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Billy Fontanilla was another, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, North Rockland waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Admirals by a score of 9-5.
Ryan Maltbie spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jacob Herrera, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabe Reyes, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
North Rockland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.
North Rockland's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Nyack, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Nyack has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .484. However, it's not like North Rockland struggles in that department as they've averaged .455. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Nyack couldn't quite finish off North Rockland in their previous matchup back in April of 2022 and fell 5-3. Can the Red Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
