Basketball Recap: West Mecklenburg Takes a Loss

The West Mecklenburg Hawks didn't have quite enough to beat the Clover Blue Eagles on Friday and fell 50-47. The contest marked the Hawks' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why West Mecklenburg lost, don't look at Josiah Bridges. Despite the final result, he went 6-for-9 en route to 21 points. With that strong performance, Bridges is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Nasir White, who posted 16 points.

Clover was led to victory by Rico Hickman and Najeh Potts. Hickman had 12 points, while Potts dropped a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

West Mecklenburg's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Clover, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.

West Mecklenburg and Ballantyne Ridge will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hawks will be up against the Wolves' rather soft defense (which has allowed 56.88 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Clover, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 52-46 win against York on the 13th.
