Baseball Recap: Dolores Find Success

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Dolores ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Ignacio Bobcats 11-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bears have posted against the Bobcats since April 21, 2018.

Gus Vaughn made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Vaughn was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-6 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, Branson Lee and Levi Hampton did most of the damage at the plate: Lee went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Hampton got on base in four of his six plate appearances with three runs and one double. Lee is becoming a predictor of Dolores' success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 0-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Kooper Thomas, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Dolores kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Dolores is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.5 runs over those games. As for Ignacio, they moved to 4-3 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dolores will host Nucla at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ignacio, they will be playing at home against Dove Creek at 2:30 p.m. on Monday.
