Baseball Game Preview: Mountain Heritage Cougars vs. Polk County Wolverines

The Mountain Heritage Cougars will head out on the road to take on the Polk County Wolverines at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Last Monday, Mountain Heritage came up short against North Buncombe and fell 5-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Black Hawks: they've now lost four in a row.

Mountain Heritage saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Deyton, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Polk County might've scored the first runs on Tuesday, but it was Hendersonville who claimed the real prize. Polk County came up short against Hendersonville, falling 14-6. The Wolverines have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Gunnar Alm was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. He also launched a home run, which is notable because Polk County is 2-1 when he posts at least one home run, but 3-5 otherwise. Alex Perry was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.

Even though they lost, Polk County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in four consecutive matches.

Mountain Heritage's record now sits at 3-6. As for Polk County, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Mountain Heritage suffered a grim 10-1 defeat to Polk County in their previous matchup back in June of 2021. Can Mountain Heritage avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
