Basketball Recap: Bonneville Comes Up Short

Bonneville was the 46-39 winner over Roy when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Bonneville Lakers took a 49-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Roy Royals on Friday.

When it comes to explaining why Bonneville lost, don't look at Ben Tesch. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 boards. Those 15 rebounds gave Tesch a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Davis Degroot, who went 5 for 9 en route to 10 points.

Even though they lost, Bonneville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Roy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Colby Frokjer, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 19 points and seven boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Frokjer has scored at least a third of Roy's points. Jesse Jones was another key player, putting up 11 points and five rebounds.

Bonneville's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Roy, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-13.

Bonneville will square off against Bountiful at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Bountiful's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Roy, they will take on Clearfield at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Roy is facing Clearfield at the right time seeing as Clearfield is stuck on a 14-game losing streak.
