Baseball Game Preview: Roswell Coyotes vs. Portales Rams

The Roswell Coyotes will face off against the Portales Rams at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Portales took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Roswell, who comes in off a win.

On Saturday, Roswell sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 victory over Denver City.

Abey Tescano made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Davian Dominguez, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Roswell's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 3-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Elias Lujan, who scored a run while going 2-for-5.

Meanwhile, Portales didn't have quite enough to beat Pojoaque Valley on Saturday and fell 7-6.

Portales has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. Roswell's win bumped their record up to 5-9.

Roswell took their victory against Portales in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 15-1. Will Roswell repeat their success, or does Portales has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
