Baseball Recap: St. Elizabeth Starts Season with Defeat at Home

St. Elizabeth unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell 10-6 to the California Pintos on Friday. The Hornets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pintos apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Sam Luetkemeyer was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

St. Elizabeth wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 3-2 defeat against Camdenton on the 22nd. As for California, they will challenge Eugene at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
