Baseball Recap: Sweet Springs Starts off Right with Win over Stover

Sweet Springs had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past the Stover Bulldogs 16-8 on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Greyhounds in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won three in a row.

Bryer Fowler and Gabe Benson were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Fowler tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Benson tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Fowler a new career-high in strikeouts (five). At bat, Fowler went 1-for-5 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Benson scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jason Gonzalez, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Joey Rapp, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-6.

Looking ahead, Sweet Springs will welcome Tipton at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Stover, they will head out to take on Climax Springs at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
