Basketball Recap: Joe Salvo Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Vail Mountain

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pueblo Centennial, Fowler was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top against the Vail Mountain Rangers by a score of 40-33. The victory continues a trend for the Grizzlies in their matchups with the Rangers: they've now won three in a row.

Fowler got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Joe Salvo out in front who posted 18 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Those 18 points gave Salvo a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Titus Ballard, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 14 boards.

Fowler smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.

Fowler now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Vail Mountain, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Looking ahead, Fowler and Hoehne will face off at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. As for Vail Mountain, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Vail Christian at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2026.
