Basketball Recap: Midway Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Kara Beth Benton and Peyton Herring

Midway was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They fell 37-25 to the Red Springs Red Devils. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Red Devils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 41-24 two weeks ago.

Peyton Herring and Kara Beth Benton certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Herring posted 12 points and eight rebounds, while Benton earned five points. Herring has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 15 times she's played.

Even though they lost, Midway smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Nakira Hunt was the offensive standout of the match as she had 20 points. That's the most points she has posted since back in November of 2024. Monica Washington was another key player, putting up nine points.

Midway's defeat dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Red Springs, their record now sits at 7-15.

Looking ahead, Midway will take on St. Pauls at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Red Springs, they will challenge West Bladen at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
