Recap: Omaha Westside Warriors vs. Pius X Thunderbolts

There's no place like home for the Omaha Westside Warriors, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They managed a 57-52 victory over Pius X on Thursday. For Omaha Westside, this counts as revenge for the 59-39 loss Pius X walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2022.

Omaha Westside was led to victory by Kimora Jenkins and Kara Stricklin. Jenkins scored 18 points, while Stricklin scored 17 points. Another player making a difference was Sydney Hagen, who scored four points along with six rebounds.

When it comes to explaining why Pius X lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sara Iburg. Despite the final result, she scored 18 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kate Miller, who scored seven points along with three steals.

Omaha Westside's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points per game. As for Pius X, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Omaha Westside won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Omaha South at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th. Omaha South will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 198th, while Omaha Westside is ranked 35th). Pius X won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Grand Island at 5:45 p.m. on January 19th. Grand Island comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
