Baseball Recap: South Newton Sets Scoring Season-High Against North White

With a playoff win on the line, South Newton rose to the challenge on Thursday. They blew past the North White Vikings 15-3. The Rebels' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Thomas Applegate was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Applegate was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cayden Martin, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Robert Buckley was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

South Newton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

South Newton's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-22. As for North White, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-14.

As of now, neither South Newton nor the Vikings have any future games scheduled.
