Baseball Game Preview: San Ramon Valley Wolves vs. Granada Matadors

The San Ramon Valley Wolves will head out on the road to square off against the Granada Matadors at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. San Ramon Valley's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Granada's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

San Ramon Valley proved they can win big on Monday (they won by nine) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past Monte Vista 4-3. The game snapped a strange streak: the last five times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Bryce Monte looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Mitch Nelson was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Drew Geertsen also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Granada). They put the hurt on Regis Jesuit with a sharp 11-2 win on Saturday. Considering the Matadors have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

San Ramon Valley's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Granada, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season.

San Ramon Valley couldn't quite finish off Granada in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can the Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
