Basketball Preview: South Webster Jeeps vs. Chesapeake Panthers
The South Webster Jeeps will head out on the road to face off against the Chesapeake Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: South Webster has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while the Panthers will arrive with three straight victories.
Last Thursday, South Webster suffered a rough 56-36 defeat at the hands of the Senators. While losing is never fun, South Webster can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 314th, while the Senators are ranked 95th).
South Webster might have lost, but man, Skylar Zimmerman was a machine: she scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That was a full 55.6% of South Webster's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Addi Claxon was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Chesapeake over the Hornets in every quarter on their way to victory on Monday. Chesapeake came out on top against the Hornets by a score of 37-25.
South Webster's loss dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Chesapeake, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-9.
South Webster lost to the Panthers on the road by a decisive 59-43 margin when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can South Webster avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
