Baseball Recap: Unionville Comes Up Short

Unionville dropped their record down to 8-10 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Bayard Rustin Golden Knights, falling 12-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Golden Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-4 back in April.

Gavin Griffith made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Unionville's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is 2-1 (and 6-9 when he doesn't).

As for Bayard Rustin, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-5. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Bayard Rustin's side, Mace Britton was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Britton is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Nate Lewis, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

Coming up, Unionville is taking a road trip to take on Kennett at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Longhorns are facing the Blue Demons at the right time seeing as the Blue Demons are stuck on a four-game losing streak. Bayard Rustin does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
