Volleyball Game Preview: Hot Springs Tigers vs. Cobre Indians

Hot Springs is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Cobre is on a seven-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Tigers will welcome the Indians at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

On Tuesday, Hot Springs got the win against Socorro by a conclusive 3-0.

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Hot Springs took every set by at least 11 points. The final score came out to 25-7, 25-12, 25-14.

Grace Apodaca and Kylie Collins were among the main playmakers for Hot Springs as the former had five digs and three aces and the latter had 13 assists. That's the most aces Apodaca has posted since back in September.

Meanwhile, Cobre made easy work of Hatch Valley on Tuesday and carried off a 3-0 victory.

The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Cobre was: they took every set by at least ten points. The match finished with set scores of 25-12, 25-13, 25-15.

Cobre found their leader in freshman Kamera Ortiz, who had seven digs and four aces. Those four aces set a new season-high mark for Ortiz.

They weren't the only good servers: Cobre was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in ten consecutive matchups.

Hot Springs' win bumped their record up to 14-8. As for Cobre, their victory bumped their record up to 19-3.
