Basketball Recap: Fuquay - Varina Takes a Loss

Fuquay - Varina was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 49-46 heartbreaker at the hands of the Garner Trojans. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Bengals have suffered since November 22, 2024.

Leading Garner to victory were Aniyah Williams and Sumayah Jones. Williams dropped a triple-double on 20 points, 11 steals, and 12 blocks, while Jones dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 boards. That's the most boards Jones has posted since back in February of 2024.

Fuquay - Varina's loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Garner, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 8-6.

Fuquay - Varina and Garner could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Fuquay - Varina (ranked 415th) will meet Willow Spring (ranked 113th) at 6:30 p.m. on January 17th. Meanwhile, Garner (ranked 308th) will meet Southeast Raleigh (ranked 30th) at 6:30 p.m. on January 17th.
