Basketball Game Preview: Leavitt Hornets vs. Oceanside Mariners

Leavitt hasn't had much luck against Oceanside recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Leavitt Hornets will venture away from home to face off against the Oceanside Mariners at 6:30 p.m.

Leavitt is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest loss since February 8, 2024 on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Medomak Valley and fell 71-31. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Panthers are ranked fourth).

Meanwhile, Oceanside escaped with a win on Tuesday against Brunswick by the margin of a single free throw, 60-59.

Leavitt's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-6. As for Oceanside, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-4.

Leavitt came up short against Oceanside in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 53-44. Can Leavitt avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
