Softball Recap: Academy of Careers & Exploration Has No Trouble Against Victor Valley

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Excelsior Charter, Academy of Careers & Exploration was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They put the hurt on the Victor Valley Jackrabbits with a sharp 20-6 victory. The Eagle might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by eight runs or more this season.

Izabella Sanchez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (two). She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addison Shockley, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Bethany White was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Academy of Careers & Exploration was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .676. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in seven consecutive matches.

Academy of Careers & Exploration now has a winning record of 6-5-1. As for Victor Valley, their defeat was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Academy of Careers & Exploration will host Burroughs at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Victor Valley, they will welcome Barstow at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Barstow has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.71 runs per game on average), something Victor Valley will no doubt try to take advantage of.
