Softball Recap: Barron Extends Winning Streak to Five

Barron had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Ashland Oredockers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 15-7 back in April.

Kailynn Duncan was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maggie Cole, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Micahlee Skjerly was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one stolen base.

Barron's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-4-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Ashland, they are on a 25-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Barron and Ashland could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Wisconsin Rankings. The Golden Bears will take on Northwestern at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (214 vs. 96). Meanwhile, Ashland (ranked 333rd) will meet Hayward (ranked 157th) at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
