Softball Preview: Astoria/VIT Rebels vs. Hamilton/Warsaw Titans
The Astoria/VIT Rebels will face off against the Hamilton/Warsaw Titans at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
Last Friday, Astoria/VIT didn't have quite enough to beat Macomb and fell 9-8. The Rebels have struggled against the Bombers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
H Horwedel put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off nine hits. Horwedel was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, D Wickert made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of P Parker, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Even though they lost, Astoria/VIT kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Hamilton/Warsaw had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over Monmouth-Roseville on Tuesday.
Astoria/VIT now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Hamilton/Warsaw, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
