Basketball Recap: Excelsior Classical Academy Comes Up Short

If Excelsior Classical Academy was riding high fresh off their 79-29 takedown of Cristo Rey Research Triangle last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Excelsior Classical Academy Flying Lions fell to the Roxboro Community Bulldogs 54-48. The Flying Lions haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why Excelsior Classical Academy lost on Friday, don't look at Hunter Goss. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 18 points and 17 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Shawn Francis-Service, who posted eight points along with five boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Excelsior Classical Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Roxboro Community was led to victory by John Little and Ben Wheeler. Little dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds, while Wheeler had 21 points and five boards. Those 24 points gave Little a new career-high.

Excelsior Classical Academy's loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Roxboro Community, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-5.

Excelsior Classical Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 57-48 win against Henderson Collegiate on the 24th. Roxboro Community has also already played their next contest, a 76-24 defeat against J.F. Webb on the 18th.
