Basketball Recap: East Ascension Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

While East Ascension didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against the St. Martinville Tigers by a score of 57-44 on Wednesday. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Tigers are ranked 193rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, St. Martinville had strong showings from Skylar Frelix, who posted eight points along with eight rebounds and four steals, and Makharee Narcisse, who had 12 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Raytyrion Narcisse, who put up nine points.

With the win, East Ascension broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-3. As for St. Martinville, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Ascension will venture away from home to face off against Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Martinville, they are taking a road trip to challenge Iowa at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
