Baseball Recap: El Camino Takes a Loss

El Camino had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 10-9 to make it five. They fell just short of the Del Norte Nighthawks by a score of 5-4. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their loss to the Nighthawks from their previous meeting back in April of 2022.

El Camino got a good showing from Max Bell, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits Bell has allowed since back in March.

At the plate, Ethan Stelzer made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

As for Del Norte, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.2 runs over those games.

On Del Norte's side, Aiden Sun made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Sun was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Del Norte's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 7-8 when he doesn't).

In other pitching news, Del Norte got a great performance from Cole Hoffman as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Grey Gusich, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.

While El Camino had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
