Baseball Recap: Canon City Extends Home Winning Streak to Four

Canon City came out on top against Harrison on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run first inning. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Panthers. Considering the Tigers have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Eric Chavez made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Trey Schumaker was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Edgardo Cubero was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Canon City was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Canon City's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Harrison, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-14.

Canon City will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Panthers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
