Baseball Recap: Atlantic Christian Comes Up Short

Atlantic Christian was the 6-5 winner over King's Christian when they last played one another back in April, but their luck changed this time around. The Cougars took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Knights on Tuesday. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Ethan Costello put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Atlantic Christian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 8-1 (and 3-5 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Charlie Costello made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI. Another player making a difference was James Papanikolaou, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Atlantic Christian's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 11-6. As for King's Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.

Atlantic Christian has already played their next match, a 4-0 victory against Gloucester County Christian on the 3rd. As for King's Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 4-1 win against The Pilgrim Academy on the 29th.
