Baseball Recap: Freehold Boro Takes a Loss

Freehold Boro extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 5-9 in the process. They lost 11-0 to the Holmdel Hornets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-0 on Monday.

As for Holmdel, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-4. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

For Holmdel's part, Jack Vallillo made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Vallillo has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Holmdel got a big performance out of Matt Iulo, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Iulo a new career-high. Nick Rakoski was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Freehold Boro will face off against St. John-Vianney at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Holmdel, they will take on Red Bank Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
