Baseball Game Preview: Sonora Raiders vs. Reed Raiders

Sonora will take on Reed in a tournament on Monday. Sonora's pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so Reed's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Sonora hadn't beaten Sunny Hills on the road since March 11, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Monday. Sonora walked away with a 5-2 win over Sunny Hills. That's two games straight that the Raiders have won by exactly three runs.

Caleb Orr spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Anthony Abad was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Luke Crowder was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Reed didn't have quite enough to beat El Toro on Saturday and fell 7-5.

Reed saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chase Spencer, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Reed has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. Sonora's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-3.

Sonora skirted past Reed 2-0 in their previous meeting back in March of 2019. Does Sonora have another victory up their sleeve, or will Reed turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
