Basketball Recap: Olentangy Orange Takes a Loss

On Saturday, the Olentangy Orange Pioneers came up short against the Shelby Whippets and fell 71-64. While losing is never fun, the Pioneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 304th, while the Whippets are ranked 54th).

Eve Schwemley continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Shelby, going 7 for 16 en route to 32 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Schwemley is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Serena Ramsey, who went 9 of 17 to rack up 19 points and eight boards.

Olentangy Orange has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points over those games. As for Shelby, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-2.

Olentangy Orange has already played their next contest, a 65-56 victory against Springfield on the 11th. As for Shelby, they will face off against Lexington at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
