Softball Recap: Norwalk Drops Season-High Score on Dominguez

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Norwalk). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Dominguez Dons a 22-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Lancers haven't had any issues with the Dons recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Mariah Favela was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-4. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Giselle Albidrez, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Nayeli Sanchez, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Norwalk hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive matches.

Norwalk's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-9-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Dominguez, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Norwalk will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Legacy at 6:00 p.m. on the 21st. As for Dominguez, they will head out to square off against Bellflower at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
