Baseball Recap: Mitchell Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

There's no place like home for Mitchell, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Orleans Bulldogs 3-1. While the Bluejackets didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Parker Reeve spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Mitchell saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Branson Yost, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Those two hits gave Yost a new career-high.

Mitchell pushed their record up to 8-4 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Orleans, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mitchell will square off against North Daviess at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Orleans, they will challenge Vincennes Rivet at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
