Baseball Recap: Rock Canyon Wins Going Away Against Liberty

The Rock Canyon Jaguars got the win against the Liberty Lancers on Thursday by a conclusive 11-1. Considering the Jaguars have won three matchups by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Jacob Woods tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched.

At the plate, Damian Fischer and Zach Perry did most of the damage at the plate: Fischer went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Perry scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Perry has become a key player for Rock Canyon: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Colton Duman also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Rock Canyon lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in May of 2024.

The win made it two in a row for Rock Canyon and bumps their season record up to 5-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Liberty, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.

Rock Canyon has already played their next contest, a 12-1 loss against Cherry Creek on the 31st. As for Liberty, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 7-3 defeat against Chaparral on the 29th.
