Preview: Whitmire Wolverines vs. Dixie Hornets

Whitmire is 2-8 against the Hornets since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Whitmire Wolverines will look to defend their home court against the Dixie Hornets at 6:00 p.m. Whitmire is out to stop a eight-game streak of losses at home dating back to last season.

Last Tuesday, things could have been worse for Whitmire, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 36-22 loss to the Hornets.

Despite their loss, Whitmire saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Trystan Samples, who scored five points along with five rebounds and three blocks, was perhaps the best of all. Samples is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last four games she's played. Brooklynn Babb was another key contributor, scoring nine points.

Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought contest, but Dixie had to settle for a 33-31 defeat against the Blue Flashes on Tuesday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Dixie in their matchups with the Blue Flashes: they've now lost six in a row.

The match pitted two key players against one another: Jaylia Turner and Autumn Thomas. Thomas had a great game and scored 21 points along with three steals. Meanwhile, Turner did her best for the losing side, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.

Whitmire's loss dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Dixie, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-10.

Whitmire suffered a grim 53-29 defeat to the Hornets when the teams last played back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Turner, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 14 steals. Now that Whitmire knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
