Softball Game Preview: Atholton Raiders vs. Glenelg Gladiators

Atholton hasn't had much luck against Glenelg recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Raiders will square off against the Gladiators at 4:00 p.m. Atholton has given up an average of 11 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Atholton came up short against Long Reach on Wednesday, falling 19-8. The Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Tatiana Maltez-Rosales made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Madeline Skaggs also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Glenelg made sure to put some runs up on the board against Mt. Hebron on Wednesday. The Gladiators' pitchers stepped up to hand the Vikings a 10-0 shutout. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Gladiators this season.

Glenelg's victory was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Atholton, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4-1.

Atholton suffered a grim 20-2 defeat to Glenelg when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
