Volleyball Recap: St. Thomas More Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Mt. Carmel

St. Thomas More faced Mt. Carmel in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Cougars fell just short of the Cubs by a score of 2-1. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cubs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, St. Thomas More sadly wound up on the wrong side. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-10, 18-25, 15-12.

Their offense was headlined by Marissa Billedeaux and Marvel Potier, who picked up six kills apiece. They got some help from Audrey Wheeler and her 14 assists.

Emma Palermo was the offensive standout of the contest as she had ten digs.

Having lost for the first time this season, St. Thomas More fell to 15-1. As for Mt. Carmel, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-2 record this season.

Coincidentally, St. Thomas More and Mt. Carmel will both be playing Madison-Ridgeland Academy the next time they take the court. The Cubs will head out to face the Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Cougars will play them later in the day, at 6:30 p.m.
