Baseball Recap: Washington Academy Continues Home Dominance on Friday

Washington Academy hadn't done well against Foxcroft Academy recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Raiders put the hurt on the Ponies with a sharp 10-1 win. Fans of the Raiders have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Trevor Shimabukuro was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played dating back to last season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on James Welch, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last four times he's played. Jayden Mahar was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

Washington Academy's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Foxcroft Academy, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

Looking ahead, Washington Academy will face off against George Stevens Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.2 runs per game on average), something the Raiders will no doubt try to take advantage of.
