Baseball Recap: Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial Takes a Loss

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 7-17 in the process. They fell 6-1 to the Sharyland Rattlers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rattlers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on Tuesday.

Jacob Tovar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on six hits.

As for Sharyland, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.

On Sharyland's side, Roy Rodriguez looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Sharyland got a big performance out of Nic Valdez, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Valdez has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Luis Balderas, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Looking ahead, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial will square off against Rowe at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Sharyland, they will venture away from home to take on Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Rattlers 2.2, the Raiders 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
