Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Venice). Their defense stepped up to hand the North Port Bobcats a 3-0 shutout on Monday. Given the Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 109th, while the Bobcats are ranked 298th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Venice's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-1-1 and their overall record up to 6-4-3. As for North Port, they dropped their record down to 1-8 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Sarasota the next time they take the pitch. Venice will host Sarasota at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while North Port will host them at 7:30 p.m. on January 14th.
