Football Recap: Jacksonville Fightin' Indians vs. Nacogdoches Dragons
Jacksonville had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 0-5 to make it seven. They lost 40-14 to the Nacogdoches Dragons. The Fightin' Indians were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-7.
As for Nacogdoches, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 37.0 points over those games.
A big part of Nacogdoches' victory came down to the chemistry between Jaylan Garrett and his top target Micah Lockett. Garrett threw for 417 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 17.4 yards per attempt while Lockett picked up 216 receiving yards and three scores. Lockett showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 67 yards. Rj Whitaker also helped out as he racked up 157 receiving yards.
Coincidentally, Jacksonville and Nacogdoches will both be playing Hallsville the next time they take the field. The Fightin' Indians will host the Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Dragons will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on October 10.
